Explore the Open Road this Autumn

Whether you’re taking your boyfriend, girlfriend or spouse on a beautiful scenic drive, or just taking time for yourself, fall is a gorgeous time of the year to get on your bike and explore what scenery the area has to offer. Monmouth Cycles, in Middletown, New Jersey, can not only get you on a great bike, but also point you in the right direction to some amazing places to catch great fall foliage.

The first recommendation for a great ride is in Sergeantsville, N.J. Located in Central N.J., you can take your bike through the Green Sergeants Bridge, which happens to be one of the only covered bridges in the state. Through these county roads you will see a great deal of beautiful trees in the midst of changing color. Another Great spot in New Jersey is Frenchtown (pictured right.) This town, which lies close to the Delaware River, is a prime spot for cruising through the fall foliage along the river. If you’re looking to get off of the bike and do a little more exploring, you can stop at Whitesbog Village and take the Old Bog Nature Trail walk.

If you are interested in venturing further than New Jersey, there are beautiful sites in New York and Pennsylvania. Bucks County, PA is known for unique and beautiful towns including New Hope and Lambertville. The surrounding scenery has been inspiration for many pieces of landscape art. There are many towns in addition to these two that offer beautiful scenery including Cottageville and Phillips Mill.

The Catskills, in New York, are a beautiful place no matter what time of the year, but it is a particularly great place to get to during fall foliage. During the last two weeks of September you can take your bike to Catskill Park where the leaves are already showing bright colors. The first two weeks in October bring you to the Northwest region of the Catskills. You can take NY 30, NY 10, NY 28 and NY 206. Keeping with the New York theme, the next stop on your bike tour can be the Hudson Valley. Take the bike up to the Shawangunk Mountains. In the first two weeks of October, these mountains offer breathtaking views for a scenic drive and photos. Use I-84, US 6, NY 17, NY 208 and NY 94 to get around and to the mountains. Also in the Hudson Valley is Bear Mountain State Park which is a great place to explore during the second and third weeks of October.

Get your bike and head out this September and October to catch some breath taking views. You won’t have another chance until next fall, so you’ll want to take advantage of these tips and get out while you can! If you need any work or maintenance on your bike before you head out, come in to Monmouth Cycles for anything you need. Let us know if you know any other great spots and don’t forget to post your photos on our Facebook Page!
